The first element of the periodic table is Hydrogen and due to its distinctiveness, it is placed apart from others and Oxygen is one of the most plentiful element in the Earth’s crust.

Explanation:

Properties of Oxygen

Physical properties of Oxygen:

  • The gas is colourless, odourless and vapid in an ordinary state. Fluid oxygen is somewhat paramagnetic. It is reactive and makes oxides with each component aside from helium, neon, krypton, and argon. It dissolves in water.
  • Dioxygen is one of the normal allotropes of oxygen.
  • Trioxygen is the most responsive allotrope of oxygen that would harm lung tissue. This allotrope is named as ozone.

Properties of Hydrogen

Physical properties of Hydrogen:

  • The hydrogen gas is colourless, odourless and tasteless in nature. It is an ignitable gas however not an ally of burning. It is lighter than air and insoluble in water. It has an atomic mass of 1.008 amu.

Chemical properties of Hydrogen:

  • Chemical properties are mainly regulated by the bond disassociation enthalpy. H-H bond is formed by hydrogen molecule, and this one bond has the huge bond enthalpy between two atoms of an element.
  • Hydrogen is motionless at room temperature because of its high bond enthalpy and, hence, it is made at very high temperatures in an electric arc or under UV rays.
