Answer:

hi mate hope my answer finds you in the pink of your health--

Step-by-step explanation:

Let, the age of one friend be x and the age if other friend be y..

according to the question, x-y=10..--(1)

four years later, age of one friend =x+4.

age of the other friend =y+4..

according to the condition, (x+4)(y+4)=48

implies, xy+4x+4y+16=48.

implies, xy+4(x+y)=48-16=32.

implies, 4x+4y= 32-xy..----(2)

4x-4y= 40---(1)×4--(3)

--------------------

8x= 72-xy..

now from (1) x=10+y.

so 80+8y=72-(10+y)y

or, 80+8y= 72-10y-y^2.

hor, y^2+10y+8y+80-72.

or, y^2+18y+8=0.

is there any mistake in the question??

plzz check it again dear..
