The rationalising factor of √5 - 2 is √5 + 2.
Therefore,

 (\sqrt{5} - 2) * (\sqrt{5} + 2) \\ = (\sqrt{5})^{2} - (2)^{2} \\ = 5 - 4 \\ = 1
