write the reaction between soap molecules and ions present in hard water.

Answer:

soap is the sodium salt of fatty acids and in water, it hydolyses to form sodium ions and fatty acid ions. This fatty acid ions react with calcium and magnesium ions in hard water forming calcium soap or magnesium soap which are insoluble.
