Sulphuric acid is a highly concentrated compound used by industries for various purposes.

Physical properties of sulphuric acid are :

1.composed of suphur, oxygen and hydrogen.

2.colorless and odorless

3.soluble in water

There are various processes which are used to prepare sulphuric acid like contact process, wet sulphuric acid and other methods.

Following are the reactions to prepare sulphuric acid [by contact process]

1.sulphur and oxygen get reacted to form sulphur dioxide.

S(s) + O2(g) → SO2(g)

2.excess oxygen is added to sulphur dioxide in the presence of vanadium pentaoxide [V2O5] at 1-2 atm and 450 C temperature.

2 SO2(g) + O2(g) → 2 SO3(g)

3.the suphur trioxide get absorbed into fuming sulphuric acid gives rise to Oleum[H2S2O7].

H2SO4(l) + SO3(g) → H2S2O7

4.then Oleum is added to water to form highly concentrated sulphuric acid.

H2S2O7(l) + H2O → 2 H2SO4(l)
