Nonmetals form acidic oxides. 3. Metals scan displace hydrogen from acids. Non-metals cannot displace hydrogen from acids.

Non metals do NOT react with acid, why?
Because, we all know, an acid gives hydrogen ion to other compound with which it reacts. But, non metals themselves are Electron Acceptors, that is, they reduce themselves, whereas, acid itself reduces! This results in NO reaction.
