Sodium and phosphorous both are highly reactive. but phosphorous is a non-metal which is not react with water this is because phosphorous (non-metal) cannot give electrons to reduce the hydrogen ions of water in to hydrogen gas whereas sodium is a highly reactive metal which can react with water and when sodium come in contact with air then it react with oxygen of air and this process is highly exothermic due to which a lot of heat produce.
