Root mean square value or RMS is root 2 times of the peak value.
Derivation :
Relationship between Peak and RMS Value of Current:
Current I = Io sinωt
I² = I²o sin²ωt
Mean square current over full cycle (I²)mean = I²o(sin²ωt)mean
Mean value of sin²ωt over full cycle is 1/2.
(sin²ωt )mean= ∫sin²ωt/ ∫ dt=1/2
(I ²)mean = Io² . 1/2
∴Root means square velocity
IRMs=√( I²) mean = Io/√ 2
