Some Rules for roman numbers numeration.

1st rule → If a symbol is repeated, its value is added as many times as it occurs.

For example :-

  • I I = 1 + 1 = 2

  • X X X = 10 + 10 + 10 = 30

2nd Rule → A symbol isn't repeated more than three times but the symbols V, L and D are never repeated.

3rd Rule → If a symbol of a smaller value is written to the right of a symbol of a greater value, it's value gets added to the value of greater symbol.

For example :-

  • V I = 5 + 1 = 6

  • L X V = 50 + 10 + 5 = 65

4th Rule → If a Symbol of a smaller value is written to the left of symbol of a greater value, its value is subtracted from the symbol of the greater value.

For example :-

  • I V = 5 – 1 = 4

  • X L = 50 – 10 = 40
