Prefix is a word which is added to the beginning of a word.

  • A prefix doesn't have any meaning of its own , but adds or changes the meaning of the word to which it is added.
  • Example - UN - prefix
  • UN+ HAPPY ( root word) = unhappy

Suffix - prefix and suffix do similar function but suffixes are added to the back of the word .

  • It also changes the meaning of the word in which they are used.
  • Example- happy( root word) + NESS = happiness.  
  • It changes the spelling of the word.
