Salient features of nuclear forces

i) They can be attractive or repulsive in nature.
ii) They are stronger than gravitational force.
iii) They follow inverse square law.
iv) They are short range forces.
v) They are effective on up to fermi.(10^-15)

Features of nuclear force are as follows:-

1. In whole universe it is the strongest force.

2. It works only between the nucleons.

3. It's range is very short Only upto size ot nucleus 3 or 4 fermi.

4. Very much depends upon distance:- Small variation in distance may cause of large change in nuclear force while electrostatic force remains almost unaffected.

5. Independent of charge:- Interaction occurs in between n-n as well as between p-p and also between n-p.

6. Spin dependent:- It is stronger between nucleons having same sense of spin than between nucleons having opposite sense of spitl.

7. It is not a central force.
