They are the simplest plant among the Tracheophytes.
These plants are mostly small and herbaceous.
They grow well in moist, cool, and shady places where water is available.

- These are used in ornamental purposes. (like decoration).
- Their dominant phase is Sporophyte.
- These are having true roots, stems and leaves.
- Those which are having small leaves are microphyllous. For example - Seleginella.
- Those which are having big leaves are macrophyllous. For example - Fern.
