we know that in the earlier times the caste system was prevalent in India but there were many kings who contributed a lot for the education of the people of all castes. in the later Vedic period the education was just prevalent for the Brahmins and the kshatriyas. also during the Muslim rule in India the Muslim rulers only gave education facilities to the Muslims.
