The shape of the early bats was like a hockey .
It was rounded at the bottom
Reasons fr this were:-
1.)It was easy to connect the ball with that kind of bat.
2.)The ballers balls under arm balls so this type of bat could easily connect the ball..

The shape of the early bats used in cricket was like a hockey stick, curving outwards at the bottom.

i) At that time, there was only under arm bowling and a hockey stick with curved ends helped in maximum contact with the ball.

ii) This shape helped the batsmen to connect the bat with the ball easily.
