- Kal-Baisakhi are local thunderstorms that were encountered in West Bengal in the month of Baisakhi (April). We cause significant damage to life and property and are recognised in India as Kal Baisakhi or Baishakhi's calamity, the month of April–May.
- Kalbaishakhi is followed by large squalls and sometimes by hail. Especially in Karnataka and Kerala, pre-monsoon showers are usual towards the finish of the summer season. They support in the early maturation of mangoes, hence called mango-showers.
- Direct exposure to these winds can even prove to be fatal. Dust storms are very frequent in northern India during the month of May. These storms provide temporary relief because they lowered the temperature and can carry bright light rain and cold briskness.
