Answer:

It is a smooth jelly like clear substance present between the cell membrane and the nucleus. The

cytoplasm consists of many small structures called cell organelles which carry out various functions

of the cell.

The nucleus is the largest and the most important cell organelle in the cell. It is usually oval or

spherical in shape. It is surrounded by a double membrane called Nuclear membrane. It encloses a

colourless, dense fluid called Nucleoplasm. It contains one or more spherical bodies called Nucleoli

(singular- nucleolus).

The nucleoplasm contains a network of thread like structures called the Chromatin network.

At the time of cell division the chromatin network forms thread like structures called chromosomes.

The chromosomes carry genes, which are responsible for hereditary characters.

Functions of the nucleus are:

 Nucleus is called as the control centre of the cell as it controls all the vital activities

of the cell.

 Transmission of characters from one generation to another as the chromosomes are

made up of a genetic substance called DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid, a sugar)
