The orbital is the maximum probability of finding electrons around the nucleus.

Probability of finding electrons around the nucleus is measured by wave function.

The wave function can have both positive and negative values.

Orbitals are represented by wave function so plus sign in an orbital represents a positive wave function where as the negative sign in an orbital represents a negative wave function .
