The significance of n, l and m is described below:

n

This is called the principle quantum number. Its significance is that it tells us to which shell the electron belongs. For example, 3p means that the electron belongs to the third shell, 4d means that the electron in the the fourth shell. This also gives information about the orbit size as well as energy of it.

l

This is the azimuthal number of quantum mechanics. The significance of this is that it gives us information about what the shape of the orbital is, wether it is linear, round or dumbell shaped. It can also tell about the sub shell to which the electron belongs. For example: if the value of l is 0, it means that the subshell is s and if l is 1 and 2, it means that the subshell is p and d respectively.

m

This is magentic number of quantum mechanics. It tells mainly two things. The first is that this can tell us about the number of orbitals that are in the subshell. The second is that it can determine the orientation of the subshells.
