Ans) Process of respiration involves five steps :-

1. Breathing and ventilation

2. Exchange of gases at lungs surface

3. Transport of gases

4. Exchange of gas at tissue site

5. Cellular respiration

Normally breathing is involuntary process. In breathing diaphragm contributes 75% and external intercostal muscle contributes 25%. Normal breathing is known as abdominal breathing because diaphragm contributes 25%.
