first they undergo calcination and they are reduced to their oxides. Then they are refined as pure metals

first of all we need to change the metal ore into its correspondingmetal oxide by the process of calcination.
calcination is the process in which metal Ore is heated strongly in the absence of air to obtain metal oxide.
now to obtain the metal from the metal oxide we need to reduce the oxygen by using a reducing agent. generally we prefer carbon as a reducing agent. but we can use any reducing agent which has more affinity towards oxygen then the metal oxide.
now the metal obtained is in impure we need to purify it by the process of electrolysis
what we do is that we have two electrodes the positive electrode that is anode is made the impure metal and the pure variety of the same metal is made as an electrode.
we use a salt solution of the same metal
now what happens when the current is passed the solution ionizers and the metal from the solution goes to the electrode
now from the impure anode the degradation of the metal happens because of which the metal again comes in the solution and from the solution it deposits on the electrode.
finally we obtain a pure metal on the electrode and the impurities are left Behind inside the solution settled bottom known as anode mud.
this will we have extracted a pure metal from a carbonate ore
hope this helped you bye bye
