Determined to conquer India, Alexander marched towards it with a powerful army. They halted on the banks of river Jhelum which was opposite to the kingdom of fearsome king Porus.

Porus  had an army laden with Elephants. When the trumpets blew and Alexander’s army advanced towards the edge of the river, Porus commanded his Elephants to be moved towards the bank.

Nights after nights the Elephants stood guard thus saving Porus and his kingdom from the intruders.

When finally Alexander’s army finally succeeded to overpower Porus, he still sat triumphantly on an enormous Elephant. Legends have that the animal took great care of its master during the troubled times.

When the king was faint from his wounds, it knelt down carefully to stop Porus from falling down.
