formula of ethanol
H H
H-C-C-O-H
H H
when ethanol is heated in excess of H2SO4 at 443K , dehydration takes place AND
ETHANOL IS CONVERTED INTO ETHENE
therefore
443K
C2H5OH +H2SO4(EXCESS) ----------> C2H4 + H2O
thus in this reaction H2SO4 acts as dehydrating agent

Hi !

Ethanol -> CH₃CH₂OH

When Ethanol is heated with excess of conc. H₂SO₄, at 443 K , Ethene is formed .

                     conc. H₂SO₄

CH₃CH₂OH ----------------------> CH₂ = CH₂ + H₂O

H₂SO₄ acts as a dehydrating agent , that removes water molecule from ethanol

hope it helps.....
