Write the structure and function of the following cell organelle :- 1. Endoplasmic reticulum 2. Golgi apparatus 3. Lysosomes 4. Mitochondria 5. Vacuoles
Answers
Endoplasmic reticulum (ER), in biology, a continuous membrane system that forms a series of flattened sacs within the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells and serves multiple functions, being important particularly in the synthesis, folding, modification, and transport of proteins .
2)GOLGI APPARATUS.
Golgi Apparatus. The golgi apparatus is a membrane bound organelle found in most cells. It is responsible for packaging proteins into vesicles prior to secretion and therefore plays a key role in the secretory pathway.
3)LYSOMES.
Lysosomes are spherical, membrane bound organelles that are generated by the golgi apparatus. They contain hydrolytic enzymes, and so function as part of the recycling system of the cell.
4)MITOCHONDRION.
. The mitochondrion is the site of ATP synthesis for the cell. The number of mitochondria found in a cell are therefore a good indicator of the cell's rate of metabolic activity; cells which are very metabolically active, such as hepatocytes, will have many mitochondria.
5)VOCUOLE.
Vacuole, in biology, a space within a cell that is empty of cytoplasm, lined with a membrane, and filled with fluid. Especially in protozoa, vacuoles are cytoplasmic organs (organelles), performing functions such as storage, ingestion, digestion, excretion, and expulsion of excess water.
