Write the structure of the major product of the following crossed aldol condensation.(i) formaldehyde and propionaldehyde(ii) Benzaldehyde with acetone.

\textbf{Cross Aldol condensation} :- wne. Aldol condensation is carried out between two different aldehydes and / or ketones , it is called tex]\textbf{Cross Aldol condensation}[/tex] . if both of them contain \alpha - hydrogen atoms , it gives a mixture of four products.

(i) formaldehyde doesn't undergo cross aldol condensation as you know formaldehyde doesn't have alpha hydrogen. from. above explanation, products will form only when both of them contain alpha hydrogen.

(ii) when aldol condensation is carried out between benzaldehyde and acetone , the major product forms Dibenzalacetone . reaction and structure of major product is shown in figure.
