Structures of lactose:

Lactose is a carbohydrate. The molecular formula of lactose is C_{12} H_{22} O_{11}. Lactose is usually found in milk. It is made up of two atoms of galactose and glucose.

It has a glucose linkage of beta 1-4 glycosidic linkage. Other name of glucose according to its structure is beta-D-galactopyranosyl. Alpha lactose and beta lactose are the two anomers of lactose. It breaks into two parts such as glucose and galactose when it is dissolving in water.
