36 is  Sum of first 6 odd terms

Given : First 6 odd terms

To Find : Sum

Solution:

Using a rule :

Sum of first n odd terms = n²

Hence Sum of first 6 odd terms = 6² = 36

Sum of first 6 odd terms = 36

Doing Normal Addition

first 6 odd terms are

1 , 3 , 5 , 7 , 9 , 11

1 + 3 + 5 + 7 + 9 + 11 = 36

Using AP

a = 1

d = 2

n = 6

Sₙ = (n/2)(2a + (n - 1)d)

= (6/2)(2*1  + (6 - 1) 2)

= 3(2 + 10)

= 3(12)

= 36

Sum of first 6 odd terms = 36

Arithmetic sequence

Sequence of terms in which difference between one term and the next is a constant.

This is also called Arithmetic Progression AP

Arithmetic sequence can be represented in the form :

a, a + d  , a + 2d , …………………………, a + (n-1)d

a = First term

d = common difference = aₙ-aₙ₋₁

nth term =  aₙ =  a + (n-1)d

Sₙ = (n/2)(2a + (n - 1)d)

Sum of Arithmetic sequence (AP) is called Arithmetic series
