SOLUTION :

Factor of a number : If a number divides another number without leaving any reminder then the number which divides is called the factors of the number that has been divided.

E.g : 1, 2, 3, 6, 12 are the factors of 24.

FACTOR TREE :

A chain  of factors which is represented in the form of a tree, called factor tree.

To express 98 as a product of its prime factors from a factor tree.

Given number : 98

Then, factor tree of 98 is given in the ATTACHMENT.

Therefore , 98 = 2 × 7 × 7 = 2 × 7²

The exponents of 2 is 1 and 7 is 2

Hence, the sum of the exponent is (2+1) = 3 .
