Answer:

Explanation:

In the story of father teaches me to be prompt the main character, i.e. the narrator tends to be late for breakfast most of the time. His father is a person who wants his boys to be punctual and prompt however, he doesn't know that George, one of his punctual son's is actually prompt because of an ulterior motive.

George would get to the table fast in order to get a hold on the sports page so that he could find out who had won that day's baseball match. Considering their father didn't approve of this as a professional sport, the boys couldn't argue much and show their interest in the game.

George was praised for arriving early enough to practice the piano. To their fathers's lack of knowledge, there was an ulterior motive hidden in George's piano playing too. He used lively music to indicate that their favorite team had won and sad music to indicate the opposite.

For George's punctuality he got an engraved watch gifted by their father, whilst the narrator had to wait to receive his watch until he would get to breakfast on time. That is when the narrator's mother gave him a family heirloom watch. To get the better watch, the narrator started thinking of not being late, instead of trying to be on time to be able to earn his reward.

When finally the narrator arrived on time, he discovered that his mother had suggested his father long ago that a watch was what the narrator needed to be prompt.
