Answer:

The Pilgrim is a poem by an anonymous author. It describes the enormous patience that a pilgrim has to reach his destination. He is ready to endure all hardships and does so cheerfully. He is ready to face any challenge that may come his way and nothing deters him from his aim of reaching his destination. So steadfast is his faith, belief, and trust in God that he can walk day and night fearlessly.

The old pilgrim on his way finds a big chasm on the bridge and sets it right for a young pilgrim who is coming that way. This shows the selfless nature of the pilgrim among other things.

Answer:

The poem begins by telling us about a pilgrim who was traveling alone on highway. The poet describes the evening as gray which could mean cloudy or late evening time when the sun has just set. He reaches a deep and wide chasm. He is experienced and he is not scared of it. He constructed a bridge over the ravine and the flowing water.

Seeing this a traveller wonderd old man's work. So he asked to pilgrim. Then Pilgrim describes the reasons. He says there is a fair haired youth behind him who has to follow the same pathway he has. The old pilgrim was experienced and he was not afraid to cross the ravine. The fair haired youth however is inexperienced and there might be pitfall for him. He was going to cross ravine at the evening and the old man was constructing a bridge to help this young man.

This poem is based on experienced people's work. It suggests that people should always build the routes and roads easier for young people to follow.
