In this paragraph we can conclude that the forest are the reason for our survival.

It says that 1/5 of country's land is covered with forest. But because of greed and over-consumption the forests are degrading. Many sages had their ashrams located in the forest where there is a direct knowledge about nature. They (philosophers) were more connected to forest than we are so they would be knowing about the biodiversity than we know. Deforestation's opposite word is Afforestation. Deforestation can cause soil erosion this means the soil is not held tightly by the roots of the tree because of deforestation and the soil looses its capacity to hold water and causes flood. There would be shortage in O2 (Oxygen) which is essential for our life to produce energy etc.

So from this paragraph we can understand that we must stop over-consumption of forest resource and use them for our need and not for our greed.
