Ca(OH)₂+CO₂→CaCO₃+H₂O
Calcium hydroxide turns milky when carbon dioxide is passed as it forms a compound which is insoluble.
CaCO₃+H₂O+CO₂→Ca(HCO₃)₂
When excess of of carbon dioxide is passed then the milkyness disappear as the compound formed is soluble and the compound is calcium hydrogen carbonate.
