Here is ur answer :

The Brook

By Alfred Lord Tennyson

THEME OF THE POEM :

The deals with the nature of the Brook that is consistent and keeps on moving towards his destination despite all hurdles. It shows a contrast between the transistors existence of men and eternal existence of the Brook with ' For men may come and men may go, but I go on forever'. The men, like the Brook, must overcome all obstacles and difficulties and move towards its ultimate destination.

SUMMARY OF THE POEM :

"THE BROOK" by Tennyson is written in an autobiographical form. In the poem, The Brook describes the journey of its life from ' haunts of coot and Heron' to 'the brimming river'.

Starting from somewhere in the mountains which are home to Birds like the coot and heron, the Brook slows down noisily over the mountain slopes to reach the valley. It makes a "sudden Sally" or emerges out suddenly and therefore makes a lot of noise and commotion. On its way, it passes by many Hills, ridges, towns, villages and bridges. The Brooke hurries down thirty Hills. Then it slips between the ridges. During its onward journey it passes about 20 villages on its way. It passes through a little town and half a hundred bridges. It undertakes a never ending journey and moves on to merge with the river. The brook ' chatter' over ' stony ways' making constant high pitched sounds. Then it makes ' sharps' and 'trebels' becoming more shrill and loud. Winding its way through cultivated and uncultivated land and forelands , the Brook provides a home and breeding ground to the willows, mallows, flowers fallen into it and fish of many kind. As the Brook passes over the golden coloured sand, foam floats over its surface. The Brooke sparkles like silver when it breaks into waterfall. Finding its way through the Forget Me Not flowers, the Brook continued its journey. It goes on sliping, sliding, gliding, dancing and lingering. Murmuring and moving, it slowly reaches its destination — the brimming River. However, its journey never comes to an end as it keeps on flowing continuously. Men may take birth and die. Their existence is transitory or temporary. But the brook flows on forever. Its existence is eternal and in no way affected by the wordly activities.
