Hi there !!

Electroplating is the process of coating a thin layer of metal on another cheaper metal either to resist corrosion or make it look attractive.

Some uses of electroplating are as follows :

1) Chromium is electroplated on metals like iron to make taps, car parts , bicycle handle bars , wheel rims etc. as it is a shiny metal that is scratch and corrosion resistant.

2) Gold or Silver is electroplated on jewellery made out of cheaper metal to make it look attractive and shiny.

3) Food kept in containers gets spoilt because of reaction with food. To prevent this , iron is electroplated with tin , which is very less reactive and is used to make tan cans which are used to store food.

4)Zinc electroplated on iron is used to make bridges and automobiles. This coating prevents iron from rusting.
