The Ruler

Also known as the straightedge, a ruler is used to construct straight lines and measure the lengths of a line segment. It is a straight edge initially used only for drawing straight lines. However, for our convenience, it is graduated into centimetres and millimetres on one side, and into inches on the other side.

The Compasses

It is a ‘V’-shaped tool which holds a pencil on the one side of the ‘V’ and a pointer on the other side. The distance between the pencil and the pointer is adjustable. It is used to trace arcs, circles and angles. It is also used to mark equal lengths.

¹Protractor in Maths

It is a semi-circular disc used to draw and measure angles. It is graduated from 0 to 180 degrees and can be directly used to measure any angle within its range. It has two sets of markings, 0 to 180 degrees from left to right and vice versa.

The Set-Squares

These are the triangular pieces of plastic with some portion between them removed. There are two kinds of set squares available in the market. One has the angles 45, 45 and 90 degrees at the 3 vertices while the other has 30, 60 and 90-degree angles. They are used to draw parallel and perpendicular lines.

Answer:

a.protractor:protractor is a measuring instrument, typically made of transparent plastic or metal, for measuring angles. Some protractors are simple half-discs. More advanced protractors, such as the bevel protractor, have one or two swinging arms, which can be used to help measure the angle.

b.ruler:ruler can be defined as a tool or device used to measure length and draw straight lines. A ruler or measuring tape can be used to measure lengths in both metric and customary units. Here, the ruler is marked in centimeters (cms) along the top and in inches along the bottom.

c.compass:compass, also known as a pair of compasses, is a technical drawing instrument that can be used for inscribing circles or arcs. As dividers, they can also be used as tools to measure distances, in particular on maps. Compasses can be used for mathematics, drafting, navigation and other purposes.

d.set squares:A set square or triangle (American English) is an object used in engineering and technical drawing, with the aim of providing a straightedge at a right angle or other particular planar angle to a baseline. ... More commonly the set square bears the markings of a ruler and a half circle protractor.
