If we keep lambda = 4

x²+4x+4

= (x+2)²

So, lambda = 4

Hope this helps... Thank you

Question :-

  • Write the value of λ, for which x² + 4x + λ s a perfect square.

Answer

Given :-

  • A quadratic polynomial x² + 4x + λ

To Find :-

  • Value of λ, for which equation is a perfect square.

Concept used :-

  • The quadratic polynomial is a perfect square if its Discriminant = 0.

Solution :-

Since, the quadratic polynomial x² + 4x + λ is a perfect square.

Therefore, Discriminant = 0

⇛ b² - 4ac = 0

⇛ 4² - 4 × 1 × λ = 0

⇛ 16 - 4λ = 0

⇛ 4λ = 16

⇛ λ = 4.
