Answer:

An autotroph is an organism that can produce its own food using light, water, carbon dioxide, or other chemicals. Because autotrophs produce their own food, they are sometimes called producers.

The organisms that can make their own food by the process of Photosynthesis are known as Autotrophs/producers. Generally, in the ecosystem, the plants are the autotrophs because they have a pigment known as chlorophyll which can entrap the sunlight (solar energy) for the breaking down of raw materials into organic substances i.e. Photosynthesis.

Till now, we know:

  • Plants are autotrophic in nature. They can produce their own food. Hence, they are also known as producers.
  • They contain a green pigment known as chlorophyll which entraps solar energy and can convert ut into chemical energy by the process of photosynthesis.

Analyzing the word "Photosynthesis", photo means "light" and synthesis means "to make or build". So, photosynthesis means "building up by light". In this process, synthesis of organic compounds like glucose from simple/raw materials like Co2 and H2O by the cells of green plants containing chlorophyll in the presence of photosynthesis.

Equation of Photosynthesis:

♠️ Essential elements of Photosynthesis:

  • Sunlight
  • Chlorophyll

♠️ Raw materials of Photosynthesis:

  • Carbon dioxide
  • Water

♠️ By-products of Photosynthesis:

  • Oxygen
  • Glucose

Mechanism of Photosynthesis:

The Photosynthesis mainly takes place by two reactions like Light Reaction (Hill's Reaction) which is light dependent reaction thus it is a photochemical reaction and Dark reaction (Calvin Benson Cycle) which is a light Independent reaction thus it is a thermochemical reaction. The light reaction takes place in the grana of chloroplast whereas dark reaction in the stroma of chloroplast.
