1. First we have to find the longest continuous carbon chain.
2. There should be the numbering of carbon atom .
3. Numbering should be in such a way that carbon atom bearing the functional group gets the lowest number .
4. There must be the numbering of parent chain from the functional group if there may be groups like -CHO , - COOH , - COCL , CONH , COOR .
5. There must be organisation by di , tri , etc if there are two similar functional groups .
