Answer:

There are 4 types of salt:

acidic, basic, mixed (ampho) and neutral.

For acidic salts,we need to react it with strong base like NaOH,If it reacts giving out heat then it is an acidic salt.

For basic salts,we need to react it with strong acids and reaction confirms the basic salt.

For amphoteric salts,it would react with both strong acids and strong bases.

If it does n't react with either then it must be neutral. Eg :NO

Common salts used in day to day life:

⇒Sodium Chloride (NaCl) - commonly known as table salt, sodium chloride, is used in seasoning food. It is also used in the making of soap and in the preservation of food.

⇒Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO₃) - this is used in baking powder, fire extinguishers and in medicine as antacid.

⇒Potassium Nitrate (KNO₃) - This salt is used as a fertilizer and in the making of glass and gun powder.

⇒Other salts used as fertilzers include; ammonium phosphate and potassium chloride.

Common acids used in day to day life:

⇒Acetic acid (CH3COOH), vinegar - vinegar is used in cooking, preserving food and in cleaning.

⇒ Carbonic acid (H2CO3), soft drinks - carbonic acid is used in soft drinks as a preservative.

⇒Sulphuric acid is used in car batteries.

⇒ Nitric acid is used in explosives and in the making of fertilizers.

Common bases and their uses:

⇒Sodium hypochlorite (NaClO) - sodium hypoclorite is the common ingredient in the household bleach.

⇒Sodium hydroxide (NaOH): This base is commonly used as oven, drain and lye cleaner

⇒Aluminum hydroxide (Al[OH]3): Aluminium hydroxide is an active ingredient in deodorants and antacids.

⇒Magnesium hydroxide (Mg[OH]2): This base is also used in antacids and as a laxative.

⇒Calcium hydroxide (Ca[OH]2) is used in  mortar, caustic lime and plaster.

⇒Sodium carbonate (Na2CO3) is used as a dish detergent

⇒Ammonium hydroxide (NH4OH) is used as a glass cleaner.

⇒Sodium bicarbonate/sodium hydrogen carbonate (NaHCO3): This base is the active ingredient in baking powder.
