The major components of gastric juice:
*enzymes like renin, pepsin- to digest protein
*hydrochloric acid- denatures protein and decrease the pH ( for optimum pepsin function)
*mucus- lubricates chyme and protects the layer of stomach
*intrinsic factors- allow absorption of vitamin B12
*water- dilutes chyme.
