Ethanol is a liquid at room temperature with a pleasant odour while ethanoic acid has vinegar-like smell. The melting point of ethanoic acid is 17oC. This is below room temperature and hence, it freezes during winters...

Ethanol:

1)reacts with sodium to form sodium ethoxide and water.

2)dehydration of ethanol results in formation of corresponding alkene..

3)it doesn't reacts with base.

Ethanoic acid:

1)reacts with base to give salt and water.

2)reacts with sodium carbonate to give sodium acetate, carbon dioxide and water.

3)it is soluable in water in all proportions.
