The differences between an artery and a vein are as follows:
1) Arteries carry oxygenated blood from the heart to the rest of the body except the pulmonary artery(it carries deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs for purification) whereas veins carry deoxygenated blood from all parts of the body except the pulmonary vein(it carries oxygenated blood from the lungs back to the heart for pumping)
2) Arteries are thick-walled and veins are comparatively thin-walled. This is because arteries carry oxygenated blood pumped by the heart which is under high pressure and it needs to withstand the pressure.
3) Veins have valves present in them to stop the backflow of blood but arteries do not
