The physical features of India can be divided into six categories

The Himalayan Mountains-

i)northern most border of india

ii) mountain ranges run in a west-east direction from the Indus to the Brahmaputra

iii)They form an arc, which covers a distance of about 2,400 Km.

The Northern Plains.-

i)The northern plains have been formed from the alluvium deposited by the mountain rivers.

ii)They are located between the Himalayan rivers in the north and the Peninsular Plateau in the south.

iii)They turned the soil on the surfaced land fertile for growing a rich harvest of variety of crops. 

Indian Desert-

i)The Indian desert lies towards the Western margins of the Aravalli hills.

ii)It is an undulating sandy plain covered with sand dunes

iii) region receives very low rainfall, below 150 mm per year

Peninsular Plateau-

i)It is a table land composed of the old crystalline, igneous and metamorphic rocks.

ii) formed due to the breaking and drifting of the Gondwana land. 

iii)has broad and shallow valleys and rounded hills

Coastal Plains-

i)Coastal plains are separated from the rest of the interior by nearby landforms, 

ii)These are known as western coast and eastern coast of the coastal plains.

iii)These are narrow coastal strips, running along the Arabian Sea on the west and Bay of Bengal on the east.

.islands-

i) is divided into Andaman and Nicobar islands.

ii)These are separated by 10 degree Channel.

iii)These islands are an elevated portion of sub-marine mountains and some are volcanic in origin.
