The motive stated by British for the partition of Bengal was for convenience in administration.

Bengal was a big province and it was difficult to administer it effectively so partition was proposed.

Some other hidden reasons were political and economic in nature.

Firstly agenda was to expand Assam for economic grounds.

Secondly the British wanted to crush the spirit of nationalism in Bengal.

And thirdly they wanted to divide and create communal tensions between Hindus and Muslims of Bengal.

YOUR ANS IS:—

1. TO BREAK THE UNITY BETWEEN HINDU AND MUSLIM FARMERS :—Through Lord Curzons proposed to make the territory of Bengal smaller and the territory of Assam bigger for a smooth administration, the hidden agenda behind it also came on the surface. Because the unity between Hindu and Muslim farmers and labourers was a threat for the British they planned to break the unity by division.

2. TO WEAKEN THE POLITICALLY CONSCIOUS HINDU BENGALIS :— The real motive of Lord Curzon was to strengthen the British empire in India by weakening the politically conscious Hindu-Bengalis and thus to resist the growth of Indian nationalism. Through this plan he tried to increase loyalty of the Muslim who were politically less conscious, and thus planned to sow the seed of communalism in Indian Society.

3. INTENTION OF EXPANDING TEA BUSINESS :—With a view to expand tea buisness, through sea routes also, the European tea planters put proposals to expand the boundary of Assam upto Chattagram. Keeping this view in mind Cheif Commissioner William E. Ward in his second tenure put proposals to annex Chattagram, two districts of Dhaka and Maimonsing to Assam.
