The center of mass concept is simple yet a powerful one. The Newtonian physics deals with motion of single particles. But in ordinary world we almost always have to consider more than one particle. So, the center of mass concept converts a multi particle system to single particle system.

Main characteristics are :

• The center of mass moves as if the whole system is moving i.e if you apply force on the center of mass then the whole system moves.
• If the force generated is inside the system then motion of the center of mass will not change.
