Two characteristics of non-formal education:

1. Does not follow a fixed system

  • There is no need to follow any syllabus or timetable.
  • Do not have to conduct or attend exams on a regular basis.
  • Does not follow any particular school system, on the basis of the requirement there is the involvement of both private and government systems.
  • Can learn at one's own pace and time. There is curriculum, time, and age flexibility.

2. Freedom to choose and express

  • The objective of non-formal education is to meet the social and economic needs of the individuals, therefore the individuals have the freedom to choose the area of study according to their needs.
  • Self-learning is always appreciated and it is an open-ended system.
  • Have the opportunity to choose skill development over grades and awards.
