Uses of Bleaching Powder 

1. It is used for bleaching cotton, linen in textile industries, for bleaching washed clothes in laundry. 
2.It is used as oxidizing agent in many chemical industries. 
3.It is used for disinfecting drinking water to make water free from micro-organisms.

It is produced by the action of Chlorine on dry slaked lime. It is represented as CaOCl2, though the actual composition is quite complex.
Ca(OH)2 + Cl2 → CaOCl2 + H2O
On standing for a longer time, it undergoes auto oxidation due to which bleaching action decreases.
Uses of Bleaching Powder:-
(i) It is used for bleaching cotton and linen textile industry, for bleaching wood pulp in paper industry and for washed clothes in laundry.
(ii) It is also used as a disinfectant for water to make it germ free.
(iii) It is used as an oxidizing agent in many chemical industries.
