Brahmo Samaj was founded by Raja Ram Mohan Roy in 1828 with the vision of monotheistic reformist movement.

Arya Samaj was founded by Dayanand Sarawasti in 1875 and it was a revivalist movement which holds the Slogan of "Back to Vedas".

Two common agenda of Brahmo Samaj and Arya Samaj are :-

  • Both the institution were founded by popular visionary with the agenda of Opposing the caste system and denounce idol worship which was prevalent during 19th Century in India.
  • They believed that God is omnipotent and omnipresent and there is no need to do rituals as prescribed by the Brahmins section of the Varna.
  • They condemned "Jati" and give emphasis on the oneness of Individual and to do good for the world.
  • Promoting true knowledge and guidance was also the ultimate goal of these social institutions.

Though, these institutions are formed in a gap of 47 years, but working for the elimination of the social evils, thus promoted hugely by all Indians.
