Difference between distance and displacement:-
DISTANCE -
- distance is the actual path covered by the object (measured by odometer)
- distance is a scalar quantity (has only magnitude and no direction)
- distance can never be zero or negative
DISPLACEMENT-
- displacement is the shortest distance traveled by the object (final portion- initial position)
- displacement is a vector quality (has both magnitude and direction)
- displacement can be negative , positive or zero
