Difference between transverse and the longitudinal waves are as follows:

Transverse Wave:

1. Displacement of the medium is perpendicular to the direction of propagation of the wave.

2. Can travel in solid but not in liquids and gas.

Longitudinal wave:

1. Displacement of the medium is parallel to the direction of propagation of the wave.

2. Can travel through all states of matter.
