1. Written Constitution.
The Indian Constitution is a written document containing 395 Articles and 12 schedules, and therefore, fulfils this basic requirement of a federal government. In fact, the Indian Constitution is the most elaborate Constitution of the world.
2. Supremacy of the Constitution :
India’s Constitution is also supreme and not the hand-made of either the Centre or of the States. If for any reason any organ of the State dares to violate any provision of the Constitution, the courts of laws are there to ensure that dignity of the Constitution is upheld at all costs.
Division of powers and Dual government system
Explanation:
There is a clear division of powers in our constitution. The legislative powers are divided into three lists - Union List, Concurrent List, and State List. The Union List mentions 97 subjects of national importance. Under which subjects like defense, railway, post, etc. are included in the state list, 66 subjects of local importance like education, health, police, etc. In the concurrent list 47 important topics related to both the center and the state like electricity, labor organization, adulteration of food items, etc.
